SYMPTOMS

When you type your password during remote access PPP negotiation, you may be prompted to type your password again. This symptom may occur if the following conditions exist:

  • Your password is expired.
  • The retry setting is 1.

Although your password is expired, you are not prompted to change your password.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the retry setting is being used before the error setting.

RESOLUTION

Important This hotfix is a client-side fix. Because of this, you must apply this hotfix to the virtual private network (VPN) client computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
