SYMPTOMS

When you start a COM+ application with the network cable to your computer unplugged, you may receive an access violation (AV) that is caused by heap corruption. With PageHeap enabled, the AV occurs in COMSVCS!COMMON_IP_BuildAddressVector.

CAUSE

The AV only occurs when the only IP address of the computer is the local host IP (127.0.0.1).

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, install the Microsoft Loop Back Adapter. However, note that this installation does not fix the problem for all computers.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
