SYMPTOMS
Windows 2000 DNS may not resolve an NS resource record that is mapped to a CNAME resource record that is mapped to an A resource record. Because of this, queries to certain sites may not work. Typically an NS resource record is mapped to an A resource record.

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.

By default, after you apply this hotfix, NS to CNAME to A is resolved. To turn off this new behavior, create the following registry entry:

Type: DWORD
Value: 0 (zero)
