SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Exchange 2000 Server, you may receive the following error message:

Setup failed while installing sub-component Administrative Group with error code 0x8007200a (please consult the installation logs for detailed description).

The Setup Progress.log file may contain entries that are similar to the following:

Error code 0X8007200A (8202): The specified directory service
attribute or value does not exist.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if a MAPI-Public-Folder Active Directory object is set to not receive inheritable permissions from its parent object.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:

1. If you have not already installed the Microsoft Windows 2000 Support Tools, do so now.
2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows 2000 Support Tools, and then click ADSI Edit.
3. Expand Configuration Container, expand CN=Services, expand CN=Microsoft Exchange, expand CN=Org Name, expand CN=Admin Group, and then expand CN=Folder Hierarchies.
4. In the right pane, right-click CN=Public Folders, and then click Properties.
5. On the Security tab, click to select the Allow inheritable permissions to propagate to this object check box.

NOTE: Make sure that the Enterprise Administrator account that is being used to set up Exchange 2000 Server has access rights to the MAPI Public Folder tree.
