Session Summary

Error handling is one of the most important features and phases of a Windows DNA development project, but importunely little consideration is given to it. Proper error handling can help to identify, isolate and resolve critical problems. The Windows DNA Error Handling 101 presentation will cover how to properly handle errors in Visual Basic components, Visual C++ components, and SQL Server, and how Windows error messages are formatted and propagated.

This is a Level 100 session that was recorded June 23, 2000 and presented by Paul Bates. Paul joined Microsoft in May 1992. Over the past 8 years, he held positions in Developer, SQL Server, and Solution Integration Engineering (SIE) support, represented Microsoft at trade shows, and even worked on an ODBC driver beta at Microsoft's main campus in Redmond. He has presented internal training, outside vender training, and certification courses at a local college. Paul holds a BS degree in Mathematics and is finishing his Masters degree in Computer Science at UNCC, where he is concentrating on his thesis topic -- the use of evolutionary/genetic algorithms to find optimal solutions in non-convex spaces.
