SYMPTOMS

If you edit a document by using the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word 2002, the text that you delete or change does not appear with strikethrough formatting.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, edit the registry and delete the key that contains the settings for Track Changes. The next time that you start Word, Word generates a new key that contains the default settings for the Track Changes feature.

To delete this key from the registry, follow these steps.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

  1. Quit all Microsoft Office programs, including the Office Toolbar.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  4. In the Registry Editor, locate the following subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data

  5. Right-click the Data key, click Delete, and then click Yes to confirm the deletion.
  6. On the File menu, click Exit to quit the Registry Editor.
