SYMPTOMS

You may receive the following "Stop 0x00000051 (REGISTRY_ERROR)" error message during a registry operation:

STOP 0x00000051 (0x0000000c, 0xc0000005, 0xb0fccab4, 0xb0fcc70c)

The first two parameters are always the same. The last two parameters vary.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a race condition on the input user-mode buffer for a registry function call.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
