Printing
326427 Custom Internet Printing ASP Files Are Overwritten When You Install Service Pack 3
In order to overcome the problem that is described in
319370 You Cannot Print to a Local Printer After Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 Is Installed
when SP3 is installed on print servers that have many UNIDRV-based PCL printer drivers, the server can spend up to two hours regenerating the parsed binary .bud files that are used to increase spooler efficiency for these drivers. During this time, the spooler cannot receive incoming print jobs and may return a message to clients that the print queue is full. This is a one-time parsing and should not occur after the initial instance following SP3 installation.
After all of the UNIDRV-based PCL drivers are parsed, the spooler is then capable of receiving print jobs as expected.
Because of this behavior, Microsoft recommends that you install Service Pack 3 on print servers that meet this condition during a time when the two-hour window for the compiling of the .bud files can be completed without affecting client-side printing needs.
