WD2002: Slow Performance When a Paragraph Spans Several Pages in a Document

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open or scroll through a document that contains a paragraph that spans several pages, these operations may perform very slowly.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if all of the following conditions are true:

  • The text of the document contains a paragraph that spans multiple pages.
  • The Widow/Orphan control check box selected in the paragraph formatting.
  • Multiple footnotes have been inserted into the paragraph.
  • The document repaginates.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing to further ensure product quality. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Office XP service pack that contains this fix.

The English version of this fix should have the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
