SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows 2000 Service Pack 2, you may receive the following STOP error message:

STOP 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0xED0808D3, 0x00000000, 0x0000000C)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

      • Fatal System Error: 0x000000c5 (0x00000000,0x00000002,0x00000001,0x804676C8)

DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL

CAUSE

This issue occurs because you use a USB Logitech mouse and have Logitech Mouseware version 9.29.2 or earlier installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download an updated version of MouseWare. To do so, visit the following Logitech Web site:

WORKAROUND

To allow the computer to start correctly, use one the following methods:

Method 1

If you choose to create a Service Pack 2 uninstall folder, follow these steps:

  1. Start to the Windows 2000 Recovery Console.
  2. Log on with the administrator password.
  3. Type the following lines and press ENTER after each line:

    cd $Ntservicepackuninstall$
    copy i8042prt.sys c:\winnt\system32\drivers (press Y to overwrite the file)

  4. At the prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to restart.

Method 2

If you do not want to create a Service Pack 2 uninstall folder, follow these steps:

  1. Start to Windows 2000 Recovery Console.
  2. Log on with the administrator password.
  3. Type the following lines and press ENTER after each line:

    cd system32\drivers
    ren L8042pr2.sys L8042pr2.old
    copy i8042prt.sys L8042pr2.sys

  4. At the prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to restart.
