VBA functions to hide revisions in Word 2000 do not work in Word 2002

Article ID: 300455

Article Last Modified on 9/23/2005

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Word 2002 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q300455

SYMPTOMS

The following three Microsoft Word 2000 options for marking deleted text are not supported in Microsoft Office XP but still appear in the VBA object model and Help file:

Word.Options.DeletedTextMark = wdDeletedTextMarkHidden
Word.Options.DeletedTextMark = wdDeletedTextMarkCaret
Word.Options.DeletedTextMark = wdDeletedTextMarkPound

CAUSE

The reason for this behavior is that deleted text, by default, is hidden in the main document. The location of the deleted text is marked by a (floating) caret that is attached to a balloon that is displayed in the side margin. The balloon is labeled Deleted and contains the deleted text. With the deleted text shifted off to the side, it no longer affects document layout or the flow of text, yet you can still view it at a glance. In other words, Word 2002 marks up a document without disrupting the layout or text flow.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
