SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open Control Panel (click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel), you may receive the following MMCPL error message:

Unable to Load Language Resources

When you click OK, Control Panel opens normally.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if an ATI Technologies Inc. display adapter is installed in your computer.

You receive the error message when you install an incorrect language version of the ATI Multimedia Center from the companion CD-ROM that is included with your ATI display adapter.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Uninstall ATI Multimedia Center

  1. Insert the ATI compact disc into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

NOTE: If the compact disc does not automatically start, double-click My Computer, right-click the icon for your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then click AutoPlay on the shortcut menu that appears.

  1. On the ATI Technologies Inc. title screen, click Uninstall Software.
  2. In the Uninstall Software dialog box, select the items that you want to uninstall, and then click Uninstall.
  3. Follow the instructions to remove the ATI Multimedia Center, and then restart the computer.
  4. Reinstall the ATI Multimedia Center.

  2. On the View menu, click Folder Options.
  3. In the Folder Options dialog box, click to clear the Hide file extensions for known file types check box on the View tab, click Apply, and then click OK.
  4. Quit Windows Explorer.
  5. Click Start, point to Find (or Search), and then click Files or Folders (or For Files or Folders).
  6. In the Named box (or Search for files or folders named box), type MMCPL.CPL, click My Computer in the Look in list, and then click Find Now (or Search Now).
