SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Windows 2000, during the device detection phase, you may receive the following error message:

Error code 800b0001
Signature for Windows 2000 Professional is invalid
Setup had problems registering the following OLE control dll: WINNT\System32\initpki.dll

Setup may not finish successfully.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the computer has an outdated basic input/output system (BIOS).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, contact the vendor of the motherboard to upgrade the computer to the latest available BIOS, and then run Setup.
