SYMPTOMS

The Pentium 4 Processor brand string is truncated on the General tab in Windows 2000 System properties.

CAUSE

The Pentium 4 Processor includes a 48-character brand string as part of the central processing unit identification (CPUID) instruction extensions. This brand string enables the processor brand name to be displayed correctly. This brand string is right-justified, and because of size constraints, the last nine characters in the 48-character brand string are not displayed in Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.

This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
