SYMPTOMS
If you use the Search functionality in Windows Explorer to search for files that contain certain text on an OS/2 server on the network, file attributes (for example, the archive bit) are deleted for all the files that have been searched.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because Windows 2000 sends the wrong Server Message Block (SMB) command to the file server. (SMB is the language that is used for file and print services in a Windows-based network.) This problem has been observed only with servers that use only older versions of the SMB protocol (Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1 or earlier).
