SUMMARY

Outlook 2001 for Mac allows you to save certain passwords for better productivity. This article explains the limitations of saving passwords with secure or encrypted messages.

MORE INFORMATION

Outlook 2001 for Mac allows you to log on, send, and receive secure messages. If these options are enabled, your Microsoft Exchange Server administrator may allow you to save passwords so that you are not forced to retype them when you send or receive encrypted messages. The capability of saving passwords for a certain amount of time is completely up to the Exchange Server administrator.

When you read an encrypted message and you have already been given a Digital ID, you receive a prompt for a password. This password is not necessarily the same password that manages your Exchange Server mailbox. When you enter this password to view secure or encrypted messages, Outlook 2001 for Mac can remember your password for you for a certain amount of time, to improve your workflow as an Outlook 2001 for Mac user.

You can have this password saved for a time period specified by your Exchange Server administrator. When you enter a time outside of the specified range, you may receive the follow error message:

Your password cannot be remembered for the time you specified.

When this error message appears, verify that the value entered is within the range that is allowed to save your password for later use.

If you set your time to zero and a password is not remembered, Outlook 2001 for Mac produces the previous error message and sets your default time to 30 minutes. If you don not want your password remembered by Outlook 2001 for Mac, click to clear the Remember password for XX minutes check box.
