SUMMARY

Service packs are the means by which Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) bug fixes are distributed. Service packs keep the product current. Service packs may include updates, system administration tools, drivers, and additional components. All are conveniently bundled for easy downloading.

Service packs are cumulative; each new service pack contains all the fixes that are in previous service packs, as well as any new fixes. You do not need to install a previous service pack before you install the latest one.

Service Pack 2

MDAC Service Pack 2 (SP2) contains core MDAC components including additional OLE DB providers and ODBC drivers for various data sources. SP2 does not contain the MDAC SDK.

If you are running Windows 2000, you must install Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) from the following Microsoft Web site:

Doing so automatically installs MDAC 2.5 SP2 and protects this MDAC release using System File Protection. This means that you can only remove MDAC 2.5 SP2 from Windows 2000 by uninstalling Windows 2000 SP2.
