SYMPTOMS
When you create a new organization chart in Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 or a later version, you cannot create an organization chart that closely resembles the organization charts that you can create in earlier versions of Microsoft PowerPoint.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the organization chart tool in PowerPoint 2002 or a later version has been completely rewritten to take advantage of the enhanced drawing capabilities of Microsoft Office XP and later versions. By taking advantage of these enhanced drawing capabilities, later versions of PowerPoint provide much greater formatting capability than earlier versions of PowerPoint. However, there are some formatting functions that no longer exist in the new organization chart tool.
MORE INFORMATION
The following Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 organization chart formatting styles are not available starting with PowerPoint 2002:
- The first group style in the second line on the Styles menu (sometimes called quadruple hanging). Any PowerPoint 2000 organization charts that use this style are changed to the default hanging box style.
- If you use the second and the third subordinate styles in the same organization chart, the chart is changed to the default hanging box style.
- If your organization chart contains more than one group of subordinates, all of the subordinates will appear in one group and be in the default hanging box style.
Any time that you attempt to edit an organization chart that was created in versions of PowerPoint earlier than PowerPoint 2002, the organization chart is changed to the new default style when the new organization chart does not support the earlier style type.
The AutoFormatting feature in the organization chart tool that is included starting with PowerPoint 2002 allows you to rapidly create useful and attractive organization charts just by clicking the shape and the layout that you want to use for subordinates, assistants, and coworkers.
