WMI SNMP Provider's GetObject() or GetObjectAsync() Function Returns an Invalid Index Value

Q288586

The information in this article applies to:

  • Windows Management Instrumentation, version 1.5, used with:
    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000

SYMPTOMS

The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) provider that is included with Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) may return invalid index values when a call is made to either the GetObject or GetObjectAsync functions. Instances that are retrieved from the SNMP provider's GetObject and GetObjectAsync functions always have an index value and relative path set to 1; all other data values in these instances are correctly populated.

Note that this problem does not affect enumeration functions, such as ExecQuery or CreateInstanceEnum. Enumeration functions correctly populate the index value and relative path.
