Article ID: 285528

APPLIES TO

This article was previously published under Q285528

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a partially transparent picture into your Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, the frame shape that is selected in the Album layout setting of the Format Photo Album dialog box shows through the transparent portion of the image.

You do not expect the frame shape to have a fill color, nor do you expect to see a background color through the transparent portions of an image when you have no background color selected.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the fill color of the image is not the same as the background color of the slide. If you change the fill color to match the background color of the slide, that part of the image appears to be transparent.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, change the fill color of the image to match the background color of the slide. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Start PowerPoint and open the presentation that contains the partially transparent image. Select the slide that contains the image.
  2. On the Format menu, click Slide Design.

Notice that the Slide Design task pane appears.
  3. Click Edit Color Schemes.
  4. In the Edit Color Scheme dialog box, click the Custom tab.
  5. Select Background, and then click Change Color.
  6. In the Background Color dialog box, click Custom.
  7. Record the settings that appear in the following boxes:

    Color model
    Red
    Green
    Blue

  8. Click Cancel.
  9. Under Scheme colors, select Fills, and then click Change Color.
  10. On the Custom tab, replace the settings in the four boxes with the settings that you recorded in step 7.
  11. Click OK, and then click Apply.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
