SYMPTOMS

When you use an Input Method Editor (IME) other than Microsoft Japanese IME 2000 to log on to a computer that is running a Japanese version of Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 1, the IME icon on the taskbar continually blinks.

If you use Task Manager, you see that the Imejpmgr.exe process repeatedly starts and stops. The Imejpmgr.exe process uses approximately ten percent of the CPU resources.

CAUSE

This problem may occur after you do the following:

  1. You use Japanese IME 2000 to log on to your computer, and then you install a program that uses the local System account to run as a service.
  2. You install an IME other than Japanese IME 2000 on your computer. For example, you install a third-party IME.
  3. You use this IME to log on to your computer.

Typically, the Imejpmgr.exe process is not started when you use an IME other than Japanese IME 2000 to log on. However, because the program that is associated with the service uses Japanese IME 2000, and you logged on by using an IME that does not typically start the Imejpmgr.exe process, the Imejp.ime file determines that the Imejpmgr.exe process ended abnormally. Therefore, the Imejp.ime file continually tries to restart the Imejpmgr.exe process.
