FIX: DTS Wizard Hangs at Startup While Enumerating OLEDB Providers

SYMPTOMS

The Data Transformation Services (DTS) wizard may stop responding (hang) when it is started. CPU utilization increases to near 100 percent, and memory usage constantly increases.

CAUSE

During startup, the DTS wizard accesses the registry to enumerate the OLEDB providers on the computer. If a required value for a given provider is missing, the wizard loops indefinitely, trying to obtain a valid value.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
