SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to save a file in a shared folder on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based server, the program that you are using (such as a word processor) may indicate that a file permission error has occurred. For example, Microsoft Word 2000 may display the following error message:

CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the client computer sends an incorrectly formed data packet to the server, which responds by resetting the connection to the shared folder.
RESOLUTION
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 98 original retail release (version 4.10.1998) only if one of the updates described in the 'More Information' section has been installed..
