SUMMARY

This article describes how to use the Windows 2000 Support Active Directory Administration Tool (Ldp.exe) to view the BaseDN attribute in Active Directory.

MORE INFORMATION

  1. If the Windows 2000 Support Tools are not installed, install them from the Windows 2000 CD. The file path is Support\Tools\Setup.exe.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows 2000 Support Tools, point to Tools, and then click Active Directory Administration Tool.
  3. Click Connection on the top toolbar, and then click Connect.
  4. In the Server field, type the name of a domain controller (DC). The default port 389 should be fine for the LDAP query, unless you have set up your LDAP port configurations differently on the DC.
  5. Click OK to connect. You should see the connection process complete successfully in the right-hand pane.
  6. Click Connection on the top toolbar, and then click Bind.
  7. Type the user name, password, and domain information for a user with access to view the Active Directory root tree.
  8. Click OK to bind. You should see the bind process complete successfully in the right-hand pane.
  9. Click View on the top toolbar, and then click Tree.
  10. In the Tree View dialog box, leave the BaseDN field blank, and then click OK. By default, this puts you at the BaseDN of the root Active Directory tree.
  11. In the left pane, you see DC=rootdomain, DC=com, with multiple subtrees. If you do not see the subtrees, you may be logged on with an account that does not have permissions to view certain subtrees.
