SYMPTOMS
The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration's EnableStatic and EnableDHCP methods may not execute properly.
CAUSE
The EnableStatic and EnableDHCP methods may not execute properly because of a timing-related issue in the Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration class provider.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to Use the Hotfix Installer
NOTE: You can use this method for only Intel-based computers with Windows 2000 installed.
- Copy the Q277884.exe hotfix file to a local folder on your computer or to a share on your network.
- Run the Q277884.exe file and follow the directions.
- Restart your computer.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
