SUMMARY

When you are creating additional public folder stores for new public folder trees in Exchange System Manager, you must create a new Exchange virtual directory to access the public folders from Outlook Web Access (OWA).

MORE INFORMATION

These new public folder trees are often referred to as non-MAPI top-level hierarchies (TLHs). They are described as non-MAPI because MAPI clients, such as Microsoft Outlook 2000, cannot access them through the MAPI public folder tree, which is visible in the Folder List view.

To connect to a non-MAPI public folder tree when you are using OWA:

  1. Start Exchange System Manager.
  2. Double-click to expand the Servers node.

NOTE: The Servers node may be at the top level in System Manager or it may be found inside an Administrative Group, if one is defined.
  3. Expand the container node for any of the physical servers that are listed under Servers.
  4. Double-click to expand the Protocols node under the physical server. You should now see all the protocol services that are available on the server (HTTP, POP3, NNTP, SMTP, and IMAP4) in the form of labeled containers.
  5. Double-click to expand the HTTP container. In this case, there should be an Exchange Virtual Server node.
  6. Right-click the Exchange virtual server node, click New, and then click Virtual Directory to create a new virtual root (v-root) under the Exchange Virtual Server in Exchange System Manager.
  7. On the General tab of the new v-root, set the Exchange path to point to the non-MAPI TLH.
  8. On the Directory Security tab, assign the appropriate access permissions.
  9. To access this non-MAPI public folder tree through OWA, use the following URL:

    http://servername/vroot/
