SYMPTOMS
If you use a proxy server to connect to Microsoft Exchange 2000 Outlook Web Access (OWA), and you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later, you are unable to see anything in your Inbox.
CAUSE
This behavior is a result of the proxy server that you are using. Full Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) support is mandatory in order to access Exchange 2000 OWA through a proxy server with Internet Explorer 5 or later.
RESOLUTION
To find out which of the latest proxy servers fully support WebDAV methods, go to the following Web site:
WORKAROUND
Because earlier generation browsers (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x, and so forth) do not use WebDAV, you may not have experienced problems with them, even though you were using the same proxy server that is currently not working for Internet Explorer 5. However, with Internet Explorer 4.x and earlier browsers, you do not have the full functionality that OWA offers browsers that support WebDAV and Extensible Markup Language (XML).
Also, implementing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) helps circumvent proxy servers that filter out unrecognized requests because they generally do not decrypt HTTP packets that are encrypted with SSL.
