Text-Mode Setup May Not Identify Some SCSI Adapters as Plug and Play Devices

Article ID: 267565

Article Last Modified on 2/20/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition

This article was previously published under Q267565

SYMPTOMS

When you install either an embedded or add-on I2O controller that requires an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) miniport driver by pressing F6 during Text-mode Setup, Windows 2000 may not correctly identify the SCSI adapter as a Plug and Play device as described in the Windows 2000 Driver Development Kit (DDK). Because of this, Plug and Play may start the PCI driver on the bridge portion of the host bus adapter, causing the adapter not to work.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install Windows 2000 from a source that contains Windows 2000 integrated with Service Pack 1 (such as a distribution folder). Also, you must install the SCSI miniport OEM driver during the Text-mode portion of Setup.
