Issues That Affect Single Computers
How to Remove the Outlook 98 E-mail Security Update after You Upgrade to Outlook 2000
If you install the Microsoft Outlook 98 E-mail Security Update on a computer that is running Microsoft Outlook 98, upgrade to Microsoft Outlook 2000, and then use the Add/Remove Programs tool to remove the Outlook 98 E-mail Security Update, you cannot start Outlook 2000 and you receive the following error message:
This problem is not resolved if you restart your computer. To avoid this problem, you must remove the Outlook 98 E-mail Security Update before you upgrade to Outlook 2000. To fix the problem if you have already upgraded to Outlook 2000, run the Detect and Repair tool for the Outlook 2000 installation.
Setup Does Not Succeed with Mixture of Outlook 2000 and Outlook 2000 SR-1 Installations
If you installed a stand-alone version of Outlook 2000, and you then upgraded to Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) by installing the Office 2000 SR-1 Full Install Product instead of by using the Office 2000 SR-1 Update, the Outlook E-mail Security Update installation does not succeed. You must run the Office 2000 SR-1 Update to force the Windows installer to recognize that the stand-alone version of Outlook has been upgraded to SR-1, and then run the Outlook E-mail Security Update setup program again.

Updating Outlook 98 and Then Upgrading to Outlook 2000
If you apply the security update to Outlook 98, and you then upgrade to Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2000 SR-1, the 2000 version of the security update is not automatically applied. You must manually apply the Outlook E-mail Security Update to Outlook 2000.
Restart Windows 2000 After You Install the Outlook E-mail Security Update
If you install the Outlook E-mail Security Update on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000, you are not required to restart your computer after you install the update. However, if you then use a program and change the security settings in that program, the settings are reset to "High" only after you restart your computer. The Setup process that resets the security settings runs only when you restart your computer.
You Are Prompted to Repeatedly Insert CDs
If you install Outlook and Office separately, and from different compact disk (CD) sets, you are repeatedly prompted to insert the CDs during the Setup process. For example, if you install Outlook 2000 SR-1 and then Office 2000 SR-1 from different CDs, you are prompted to change CDs up to six times during the installation process.
Unsuccessful Setup
If you use Windows Task Manager and click End Task to stop the security update Setup procedure, you receive a dialog box that states that the update was applied successfully. The Setup procedure does not recognize when you stop it in this way, and erroneously reports that it has successfully finished.
Issues That Affect Administrators and Deployment Scenarios
Security Update Installs on a Non-SR-1 Server Installation
The security update can be installed in an administrative installation (a setup /a installation) of Office 2000 that does not have Office 2000 SR-1 applied. However, this may cause problems later. As the Outlook E-mail Security Update documentation suggests, administrators should apply the security update only to admininistrative installations that have had Office 2000 SR-1 applied.
Multiple Users Are Not Updated
If you have a computer that is configured with multiple Windows profiles and you apply the update to only one user, the update is not applied when other users log on to the computer. To work around this limitation, run Office or Outlook Setup, and then click Detect and Repair.
