FIX: Visual C++ 6.0 Debugger Stops Responding on Multiprocessor Computers

SYMPTOMS

The Visual C++ Debugger may stop responding (hang) when it is run on a computer that has multiple processors.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a bug in the Em.dll file, one of the Visual C++ 6.0 debugger files.

RESOLUTION

Install the latest service pack for Visual Studio 6.0.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This bug was corrected in the next service pack for Visual Studio 6.0.
