SYMPTOMS

During Windows 2000 Setup, there is a brief period during which the computer is on the network with a blank Administrator password, even if you specified a password earlier in the Setup process. After the network components are installed, anyone on the network can connect to resources on the computer by using the Administrator account with a blank password.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
