- Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
- Locate and click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MessengerService
- On the Edit menu, click Add Key.
- In the Key Name box, type Policies, and then click OK.
NOTE: Leave the Class box empty. - Click the Policies key.
- On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value name: DisableCrossPromo
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Decimal
Value data: 2 - On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value name: ExchangeCONN
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Decimal
Value data: 2 - Quit Registry Editor.
After you finish this procedure, log off, close, and quit the Instant Messaging client. When you log back on, note that the lower quarter of the client no longer displays any Weblinks or promotions.
By setting the ExchangeCONN setting to a binary of 00000010, it forces the Instant Messaging client to use Exchange exclusively and disable MSN Messenger support.
