CAUSE
This behavior may occur when you have Norton AntiVirus 2000 installed on your computer.
NOTE: The file that failed to open is not damaged in any way as a result of this problem.
Norton Antivirus 2000 includes a plug-in component for Microsoft Office 2000 that requests a virus scan whenever a Microsoft Office 2000 program opens a file. In Microsoft Project 2000, this component causes the behavior described in the "Symptoms" section.
WORKAROUND
This behavior may not occur if you use Windows Explorer or My Computer to locate and open your project files, rather than opening them from within Microsoft Project.
To avoid this behavior, unregister the Norton AntiVirus OfficeAV.dll plug-in component. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Start menu, click Run.
- In the Open box, type the appropriate command for your system, and then click OK.
For Windows 95/98 with Only Norton Antivirus Installed:regsvr32 /u "c:\program files\norton antivirus\officeav.dll"
For Windows 95/98 with Norton SystemWorks Installed:
regsvr32 /u "c:\norton systemworks\norton antivirus\officeav.dll"
For Windows NT or Windows 2000:
regsvr32 /u "c:\program files\navnt\officeav.dll"
If the command is successful, you see the message: "DllUnregisterServer in C:\
NOTE: If the command is unsuccessful, search the hard disk for the file. The file might be located in a different folder.path
\OfficeAV.dll succeeded."
