SYMPTOMS
When you try to start Microsoft Money for the first time, you receive the following error message:
RESOLUTION
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

After you remove and reinstall Money, test to see if the issue is resolved. If you still receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, continue with the following steps in the order that they appear in.
Back up the registry
Before you change the registry, export the keys in the registry that you plan to change, or back up the whole registry. If an issue occurs, follow the steps in the "How to backup, edit and restore the registry" article that is referenced later to restore the registry to its previous state.

Back up the whole registry
To back up the whole registry, use the Backup utility to back up the System State. The System State includes the registry, the COM+ Class Registration Database, and your start files.

- Quit Money if it is running.
- Press the Windows key and R at the same time, type the following text in the Open box, and then click OK:

is the letter of the hard disk where Money is installed. - Double-click the Money version Eula.txt file--for example, Money 2002EulaMny11Eula.txt. Then, read the End User License Agreement (EULA). If you agree to the terms in the EULA, go to step 4.
- On the File menu, click Close.
- Obtain and then install the Eulafix.exe file.

Microsoft Money 2004 and later versions
To resolve this issue in Money 2004 and later versions, change the Windows Registry. To change the registry, we recommend that you follow the steps that are listed in the Microsoft documentation only. If you can, use the Windows user interface instead of directly editing the registry. To add a registry key, click Start, click Run, type Regedit, and then click OK.

- Double-click How To.
- Double-click Change Keys and Values, and then click the topic that you want.
Create the following keys for your version of Money.
