SYMPTOMS
If you install the Database Components SQL Server 7.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) on a server that is running Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 95, or Windows 98, and you then later upgrade the operating system to Windows 2000, the Windows 2000 upgrade replaces certain system files involved in sorting Japanese characters with versions of the files that are earlier than the versions required by SP2.
This issue applies only to servers on which you have databases that contain Japanese characters.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, if you use Japanese characters in your SQL Server databases, re-run the version of the Sqlredis.exe that came with SQL Server 7.0 SP2, after you upgrade the operating system to Windows 2000.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION
This issue applies only to servers on which you have databases that contain Japanese characters. You do not have to reapply Sqlredis.exe on any client computers, or any servers that do not have databases containing Japanese characters.
