SYMPTOMS

When you open a program that uses ODBC, you may receive any of the following error messages:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error "number".

ODBC Call Failed. Error "number".

MS ODBC SQL Server driver error.

NOTE: These are only some of the errors that you may receive.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, update Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) in Windows. To receive the latest MDAC component update, connect to the following Microsoft Web site:

If you are using Windows 95, you must install DCOM for Windows 95 before you install MDAC. For additional information about installing DCOM, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION

There is not a specific ODBC update available for Windows 95 or Windows 98.

MDAC includes ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), Remote Data Services (RDS, formerly know as Advanced Database Connector or ADC), and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC).
