SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to change any setting in the Outlook Express desktop shortcut or taskbar shortcut, you receive an "Access is denied" error message.
CAUSE
The Read-Only attribute is set on the Outlook Express shortcuts.
RESOLUTION
To remove the Read-Only attribute from the Outlook Express shortcut:
- Right-click the Outlook Express icon, and then click Properties.
- Click the General tab.
- Click to clear the Read-Only check box.
- Click OK.
MORE INFORMATION
The Read-Only attribute is set on the Outlook Express shortcuts to maintain compatibility with older versions of Microsoft Outlook.
