Windows 2000 May Hang on Toshiba 8100 Laptop

SYMPTOMS

While you are using your Toshiba 8100 laptop computer, the computer may become unresponsive, or appear to stop responding (hang). Also, the central processor unit (CPU) may appear in Task Manager to be running at 100 percent, even if there are no active processes.



CAUSE

This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions exist:

You are running on battery power.




You are using one of the following power schemes:




  • Home/Office Desk
  • Portable/Laptop
  • Presentation



RESOLUTION

To prevent this behavior from occurring, use the Power tool in Control Panel to change your laptop power scheme to one of the following:

  • Always On
  • Minimal Power Management
  • Max Battery
