Dedicated and Virtual Network Adapters in NLB Both Register in DNS

Article ID: 256126

Article Last Modified on 3/1/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

This article was previously published under Q256126

SYMPTOMS

If Windows 2000 Network Load Balancing is installed on a DNS server, both the virtual network adapter address and the dedicated network adapter address appear in DNS after an ipconfig /registerdns command or a reboot.

The registrations occur even if registration is turned off on the network adapter.

RESOLUTION

To stop this behavior from occurring, follow these steps by using the DNS snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC):

  1. Click the DNS server.
  2. Click the Interfaces tab.
  3. Click Only from the following interfaces, and then type only the address that you want to register in DNS.
