SUMMARY

The Nickname box on the Details tab of a standard Contact form does not resolve to the address for that contact when you type it into the address box in a message or a meeting request.

MORE INFORMATION

The information that you provide on the Details tab of a Contact form is for informational purposes only. Microsoft Outlook does not parse information on the Details tab when resolving addresses.

The Address box does not correlate with the contents of the .nick file or of the .nk2 file that is associated with the profile. The .nick file or the .nk2 file allows a user to enter a string of characters and assign that string to an e-mail address. This address can be a contact, custom recipient, or member of a Microsoft Exchange Directory.

Note Microsoft Outlook 2002 and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 use the .nk2 file name extension for the nickname file. All earlier versions of Outlook use the .nick file name extension for the nickname file.
