SUMMARY

This article advises users of The Microsoft Network (MSN) of possible issues which may occur upon upgrade to Windows 2000 from Windows 95 or Windows 98.

MORE INFORMATION

When you upgrade, Windows 2000 installs Connection Manager. Any existing version of Connection Manager is upgraded and existing settings are imported. MSN settings are stored in an older profile which may not allow some settings in Windows 2000.

As a result, the following issues may occur:

  • You cannot activate the icon on the taskbar for the connection.
  • You cannot set up more than two numbers to dial (two is the default).
  • You cannot use Internet Connection Sharing.

The following icons may be changed to the MSN brand icon:

  • Connection Manager
  • Internet Explorer
  • Outlook Express

In addition, various tabs and settings may be missing from Connection Manager, Internet Explorer, and Outlook Express.

To resolve these issues, install MSN from the following location

or contact MSN Support for an MSN Installation CD at no charge.
