Internal Error 2755 Installing Windows 2000 Resource Kit on a Terminal Server

SYMPTOMS

If you install the Windows 2000 Resource Kit on a Windows 2000 Server-based computer running Terminal Services, you may receive the following error message:

Internal Error 2755. 3 %path%\w2000rk.msi.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you attempt to install the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit over the network by using a mapped drive.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, connect to the share by using the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path using the following syntax

\\servername\share


Then start the installation using either the Setup.exe or W200rk.msi file.

NOTE: If you log onto the console, you do not receive the error message, even if the share is mapped to a network drive.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 2000.
