Summary:

In theory, there is no maximum limit to the number of slides in a PowerPoint presentation. The size of a presentation is limited only by available application memory. However, it has been observed that a presentation containing more than 2017 slides may crash frequently and that slides beyond number 2017 may not be saved in the presentation.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
