SYMPTOMS

When you are using User Manager for Domains from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to establish a trust from a Windows 2000-based domain to any other domain, you may receive an error message. When you are adding a domain name to "Trusted Domains," the error message is "Parameter is Incorrect." When you are adding a domain name to "Trusting Domains," the error message is

CAUSE

You cannot use User Manager for Domains from Windows NT 4.0 to create a trust for a Windows 2000-based domain.

RESOLUTION

Create the trust by using the Windows 2000 Active Directory Domains and Trusts tool. Right-click the domain name, and then click Properties. Click the Trusts tab, and then add the appropriate trust.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
