SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade from Microsoft Windows 95-based or Microsoft Windows 98-based computer to Windows 2000, all user accounts are added to the local Administrators group.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Windows 2000 Setup preserves the full access to local resources that is available to users who log on to a computer running Windows 95 or Windows 98.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, move any users that you do not want to have local administrator privileges from the local Administrators group to the local Users group:
- Log on to the computer as the local administrator.
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Computer Management.
- Double-click Local Users and Groups, click Groups, and then double-click Administrators.
- Press and hold down the CTRL key, click the appropriate user accounts, click Remove, and then click OK.
- Double-click Users, click Add, press and hold down the CTRL key, click the appropriate user accounts, click Add, click OK, and then click OK.
