SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1), Office may not accurately report the required disk space for the installation.
If you are short of disk space, you may receive a message similar to the following:
If you make more free space available, and then re-run the installation of Office SR-1, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
The first message reports that Office SR-1 requires 151,381 kilobytes (KB), and after you make more space available, the second message reports that Office SR-1 requires 207,721 KB, an increase of about 50,000 KB.
NOTE: The amount of free disk space required to install Office SR-1 varies, depending on the features that you already have installed on your hard disk.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Office 2000.
