Visio: Error When You Install Visio Network Equipment 98.2 with Certain Visio Language Versions

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Visio Network Equipment (VNE) version 98.2 to use with an edition of Visio 5.0 that is in a certain language, you may receive a message that states that your Visio edition does not support version 98.2. The message also gives you an alternative for installing Visio Network Equipment.

The message appears if you use the following Visio language versions:

• Dutch
• Swedish
• Spanish
• Italian
• Korean
• Chinese
• Portuguese

The message does not appear if you use U.S. or International English, French, German, or Kanji versions.

NOTE: If you use a Visio edition earlier than 5.0, you must upgrade to the latest version before you can install Visio Network Equipment 98.2. For upgrade information, please contact Microsoft Product Support Services. You can find the appropriate phone number at the following Web address:

CAUSE

If you use a Visio 5.0 edition, the error message occurs because the new Locate Network Equipment utility, which is part of the 98.2 update, requires Visio 5.0b. However, if you use one of the language versions listed in the "Symptoms" section, a 5.0b update is not available for your Visio edition.

RESOLUTION

To use Visio Network Equipment 98.2 with your Visio language version:

1. Download IEVNE982_25X.exe. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

   Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

2. When the download is complete, navigate to and run Patch.exe.
3. To complete the installation, follow the instructions on the screen; requires the VNE 98.2 CD to access the stencils found there.

IEVNE982_25X.exe is a file that installs the Visio Network Equipment stencils, templates, and add-ons, but does not install the Locate Network Equipment program.

Locate Network Equipment is a utility that you can use to search for network equipment shapes on your hard disk and optionally on the Visio Network Equipment CD. If your edition of Visio 5.0 does not support Locate Network Equipment, you can still search for network equipment shapes by creating a user database to use with the Visio Shape Explorer program. For instructions about how to do this, refer to "Creating a Custom User Database" on the Contents tab of Shape Explorer Help. (To run the Shape Explorer, point to Stencils on the File, and then click Shape Explorer.)
