SYMPTOMS

There are limits on the number of tasks that can be imported into or created by the Visio 5.0 Project Timeline Wizard.

Importing Data Files

Timelines can be generated with the Project Timeline Wizard by importing data in comma or tab-delimited text (.txt), Microsoft Excel (.xls), or Microsoft Project exchange (.mpx) formats. The wizard can import a maximum of 100 tasks. Beyond 100, tasks will not be included in the timeline. A message is provided indicating that the limit has been exceeded and the timeline truncated. This limit applies only to the importing of data. Additional tasks can be created manually in Visio after the timeline has been built.

Creating Timelines with no Data

The No Data option in the Project Timeline Wizard will create a new, empty timeline to which data is added later. The wizard can create a maximum of 75 tasks initially in a new timeline. Additional tasks can be created manually in Visio after the timeline has been built.

Exporting Microsoft Project Exchange (.mpx) Files

Timeline data in Visio can be exported for use in Microsoft Project by clicking Export Project on the Project menu. There is no limit on the number of tasks that may be exported.
