SYMPTOMS
If you start your computer using an MS-DOS boot disk and try to run the Winnt.exe program to install Windows 2000, you receive the following error message:
Windows 2000 requires a hard drive volume with at least 249 megabytes of free disk space. Setup will use part of this space for storing temporary files during installation. This drive must be on a permanently attached local hard disk supported by Windows 2000, and must not be a compressed drive.
Setup was unable to locate such a drive with the required amount of free space.
Setup cannot continue. Press Enter to exit.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you do not have any defined partitions on your hard disk.
RESOLUTION
To install Windows 2000 on a computer with no defined partitions, start your computer from the Windows 2000 Setup boot disk or the Windows 2000 CD-ROM.
