FIX: Analyze -F Causes Inconsistencies if 10 Multibyte Character Set Files with First Eight Bytes Are the Same Text

SYMPTOMS

Analyze.exe -F causes the following inconsistency error message if the Visual SourceSafe (VSS) database contains 10 multibyte character set (MBCS) files with the same first eight text bytes and, if there is a long file name with the first eight bytes that are the same text in the database, the name is changed after Analyze.exe -F:

In the VSS Explorer, open the database and the file name "<TESTABCDEFGHIJKLMN>.txt" is changed to "<TESTABCDEFGHIJKL>."

RESOLUTION

A supported fix for Visual SourceSafe 6.0 that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

STATUS

This bug was corrected in a hotfix for Visual SourceSafe 6.0.
